Biography

Christine Shea CV

In my research I study the acquisition of second language phonetics and phonology. I concentrate on Spanish and English mainly, but also other Romance languages. My main focus is on how variability in production and perception affect acquisition. Recently, my students and I have examined the role of dialect and allophonic variability in language processing across different contexts and by different learner groups.

In the lab we have a number of different projects underway that examine how different populations (heritage speakers, early sequential bilinguals, late L2 learners) develop their phonetic and phonological systems. We have recently begun to expand this to include third language acquisition. If you are interested in working on any of these topics, please feel free to contact me for more information.
